Choosing your venue and choosing your date are two things that should work in tandem with each other. If you have a specific location that you have been eyeing for a while or that one place your friends cousin got married that you just adore, check with them before you get settled on a date. Other vendors will be much easier to find that will line up with your date because there are just so many options.
Your venue is one of THE most important elements of your wedding and will dictate what other things you will need to get and what the remainder of your budget will be. One thing to think about when looking at venues is the variety of packages they offer and the amenities that are available for your day. Does the venue you like come with tables and chairs that they will set up for you? How about sound equipment? Some venues will even offer on site catering and bar services. This can be a more cost effective way to manage the entirety of your wedding budget. However, some of these elements, like centerpieces, can be done for cheaper than your venue might be offering them and if it is required by the location to use these services you could end up spending more in the long run.
Don't think that opting out of a full service venue is always the best option! Sometimes its the "simple" back yard or private property weddings that end up being more costly because of all of the little details that will need to be rented or bought (think tables and chairs, bar and food serving stations, dance floor, etc.)! Before making a decision think about all of your options and really sit down with REAL numbers from venues and analyze the pros and cons before you make your final decision.
